Complex Wound Clinic

The Complex Wound Clinic is facilitated by the DHB's Wound Care Nurse Specialist who aims to provide a comprehensive consultation, assessing individuals that present with non-healing wounds and / or are in need of advanced wound care practices / therapies.

The following services are offered by the Complex Wound Clinic:

Conservative Sharp Debridement
This procedure is undertaken by an accredited Registered Nurse within the clinic setting. As this is the case restrictions are in place as to the extent of wound debridement.
This form of debridement involves removing non-viable tissue in layers and often involves the use of autolytic debridement through the use of moisture managing wound care products between procedures.

Complex Wound Assessment
The Complex Wound Clinic can provide support and advice for community based clinicians caring for patients with complex wounds.
These wounds are not exclusive to but may include: pressure injuries, lower leg ulcers, post surgical dehiscence etc.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)
The Complex Wound Clinic offers support with the assessment/review of wounds in need of or currently receiving NPWT.
