Waitematā DHB Respite Service
Respite Service (Out of Home Support)
Respite (Out of Home Support) is provided by Waitematā DHB and is free for families in the Auckland and Northland regions. The service is for children 0-16 years old who have disabilities, are medically fragile and have high support needs.
Entry to the service can be requested through your Needs Assessment and Service Coordination team who will refer you to our service or contact us on (09) 488 4688 ext 45876 to discuss your interest and arrange a visit.
This service provides periodic relief to families who have children with multiple or complex needs living at home or in the community.
Your child can enjoy a range of planned stays, which may include day stays, overnight weekdays, weekends and school holidays. 24-hour care is provided by registered nurses, enrolled nurses and skilled hospital aides. We have play specialists as part of our team who provide opportunities for play and recreation.
Intensive respite – (also known as radical respite) with the same criteria as above, and specifically designed to meet the needs of children who are walking and require a high level of intensity in supervision and intervention.
Our vision is to provide family-centred care and opportunities for your child. Because every child is an individual, we work with you to meet their needs in a flexible, fun and safe way. Staff will take time to listen to you. We'll follow through programmes and goals you already have in place. We also develop a care plan with you, to meet your child's needs.
As health professionals, we care about creating opportunities for your child to discover new experiences and friendships.
