Description
Specialist medical services provided by MEDSAC accredited clinicians to assist survivors 14 years and older who have experienced sexual harm.
Age: Youth and Adults 16 years and over (<16 with discussion prior to referral)
Region: Wellington, Kapiti, Porirua, Hutt, Wairarapa
Description:
Wellbeing Check (Non Forensic Services) = a visit with a Specialist Dr or Nurse to discuss your health needs and care around your experience of sexual harm. It may or may not include a physical exam depending on your needs.
For a sexual assault/abuse that happened more than 7 days ago:
We can provide a safe place:
- To discuss health concerns related to the assault/abuse
- To answer any questions you may have regarding STI's/sexual health
- For a medical exam (if desired, you don't need to have one)
We provide services to people of diverse social and cultural backgrounds who have experienced sexual harm, whether recent or historic. Services we offer include:
- STI testing and treatment
- Pregnancy testing and emergency contraception
- Medical "off work" certificate
- Referral for Specialist Support Services
- ACC45 can be completed for support
- We can consult with your GP and refer you to other health services as needed
- Therapeutic Social Work support
Forensic services = an examination with the purpose of collecting DNA for a possible police report. The exam is done by a specialist forensic team which includes a Forensic Examiner ( Dr or NP) and a Forensic Nurse and usually includes a specialist support worker from Wellington HELP, HV SASH or Wairarapa Rape Crisis Collective.
If you have been sexually assaulted in the last 7 days:
- We can provide a full "forensic" (with DNA collection) exam, 24/7, with or without police involvement
- We take detailed forensic notes so an "expert witness" statement can be prepared for court, if needed.
Email wahimarie@tuora.org.nz or ring 0800 723 377 Mon - Fri 9am-4pm
All services are FREE of charge with no residency/eligibility criteria.
