Profile

Mark is an Upper Gastrointestinal surgeon who has a particular interest in the management of obesity and cancers of the stomach and oesophagus.

He is a graduate of the Imperial College School of Medicine, London. He successfully completed his General Surgical training in New Zealand becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) General Surgery in 2013. 

Mark subsequently completed subspecialty post-fellowship training. This comprised of an Oesophagogastric Fellowship at the University Hospital Southampton, training in the management both complex benign and malignant conditions affecting the oesophagus and stomach.

Subsequently, he took up posts as a Consultant Oesophagogastric Surgeon at both University Hospital Southampton and The Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. Mark returned to New Zealand to in 2017, completing his Bariatric training at Waitemata DHB, performing both primary and revisional bariatric procedures.

Currently Mark is the only Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgeon appointed at Southern DHB.

Mark is pleased to have started consulting out of Suite 6, at the Marinoto clinic, whilst operating at Mercy Hospital.
