Literacy Aotearoa will honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi* by operating in accordance with Tino Rangatiratanga and guided by Manaaki Tangata.

What do we do?

Our core activity is delivering learning services to adults nationwide, in the community and in workplaces, assisting them to improve their literacy, numeracy and communication skills.

To ensure our work is relevant and effective we deliver training for nationally recognised tutor qualifications and professional development, conduct and publish research, develop new programmes, create resources and produce original materials, working collaboratively with the wider adult literacy sector.

We aim to provide a learning situation where the work done is based on the student's need and is relevant to their work and family life.  The tutors try to make learning enjoyable for the learners and, more often than not, the learners end up teaching the tutors a thing or two.

We usually operate in line with the school terms, however some learners prefer to continue in the holidays. This is negotiated between the student and tutor.

If you think you could benefit from some help with your reading, writing or maths, digital literacy or learner licence theory or you know someone else who you think would benefit, please contact us.  Often the first step of making the phone call or sending the email is the hardest.  Once you have done this the fun begins.

We have sites in North Auckland, Waiheke, Glen Innes and Pukekohe with sites due to open in Henderson and Otahuhu October 2019.
