PACIFICA is about the betterment of families through the empowerment of women to better participate in society. We are a nationwide network of Pacific women with 21 branches throughout New Zealand established in 1975. Our Tamaki branch has been going since 2006; we meet regularly throughout Tamaki for fellowship, advocacy, and community projects that support Pacific women. We have advocated on the Alcohol Reform bill, fair pay, liquor stores opening up in our community, more local representation in the SuperCity, the music and arts centre Glen Innes for our kids, housing redevelopment. We were involved with raising awareness of rheumatic fever, early childhood education and cervical and breast screening. We also support projects that build healthy relationships as a way of preventing domestic violence and in conjunction with Te Oro and HEART were proud to be involved with E Ono Tama'i Pato (play raising awareness of sexual abuse).
