Sexual harm support, advocacy, information and prevention education for students and staff of the University of Otago.

We are a place of shelter to reduce the impact of sexual violence within the University of Otago campus communities. The centre is one unified space that provides sexual violence related support and education to all students and staff.

Services for Students:

  • Crisis intervention to survivors and their whānau, including a safety check and a personally tailored safety plan
  • Someone to listen
  • Referrals for resources on campus (e.g. Student Health, Queer Support, OUSA Support)
  • Referrals for resources off campus (ACC Sensitive Claims registration, Court Victim Advisor)
  • Accompaniment to Proctor or Police (if desired)
  • Discussion of options to help you stay at university
  • A safe space for all members of the university community
  • Support and guidance if you are caring for a friend

  • Help staff to support students who have disclosed issues of sexual harm
  • Workshops on sexual harm (including Handling Disclosures of Sexual Assault for Staff Members)

Prevention Education:

Flip the Script is an evidenced based sexual violence prevention programme for women. Flip the Script involves 12 hours of training in a safe and inclusive environment. The programme is ordered into four sessions, each three hours long.

During Summer School and outside of semester, we operate 11.00AM - 2.00PM Monday to Friday.
