Description
Community testing for COVID-19 is not available at Hospital Emergency Departments.
Click here for a list of Community Testing Centres.
The Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital is for life-threatening emergencies. Call 111 in an emergency, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Your family doctor is the first place you should go for help. They will provide you with medical advice, prescriptions and help you to manage any long-term conditions. If you do not have a family doctor you can find one on Healthpoint.
The Emergency Department has specialised areas for resuscitation and monitoring. There are 27 adult assessment rooms, two adult procedure rooms, a dedicated plastering room and an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) room. There are also 24 beds in the adult short stay area for patients with an 'expected' discharge period within 24 hours from arrival that are utilised by all teams providing acute care.
The Emergency Department has a separate area for paediatric services (Kidz First Emergency Care). This includes two resuscitation rooms, 14 acute assessment rooms and a procedure room. There are also 13 beds in the paediatric short stay area.
Accident and Medical clinics in the Counties region also provide after-hours care. Lower after-hours charges apply 6pm - 8am weekdays, all weekend and every public holiday. Scroll down to view details for alternative Accident and Medical clinics in the Auckland Region.
