Koropiko Mental Health Services for Older People is an integrated assessment and treatment service for older people (65 and over) with moderate to severe mental health problems or behavioural and psychological symptom associated with Dementia.
Koropiko Mental Health Services for Older People serves the population of Counties Manukau District Health Board who are 65 or older. There are provisions for younger people who would benefit from the services provided by MHSOP.
MHSOP has a 15 bed inpatient unit based at Middlemore Hospital and two geographically divided Community teams. MHSOP has multi-disciplinary teams consisting of:
- Registered Nurses
- Occupational Therapists
- Social Workers
- Psychologists
- Consultant Psycho-Geriatricians
- Registrars
The service is led by a service manager and psychiatrist/clinical head.
The teams practice an integrated model which means that the consumers care is coordinated by the multi-disciplinary team in a way that is best suited to their needs in the community. If an inpatient stay is required, the community team remains involved in the care planning with the added specialty of the inpatient team.
