The Neurological Rehabilitation Service provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients living in the Counties Manukau District Health Board region.
Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team that develops a patient-focussed, goal-based treatment programme based on the individual patient's needs.
The service includes inpatient care on Ward 23 Middlemore Hospital and an outpatient medical and physiotherapy service based at the AT&R Unit of Middlemore Hospital.
The criteria for admission to the ward are that the patient is:
- Aged 16 to 65 years
- Medically stable with potential for good rehabilitation outcomes
- Able and willing to participate in an individualised programme

Acute Consultation Service
Patients referred for admission to the inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation service after an acute episode are assessed by members of the multidisciplinary team to determine the appropriateness of their admission to the service.
